Cotopaxi submitted their ground-breaking idea after RBS called on innovators and small businesses (SMEs) to come forward with new eco-ideas for the bank’s iconic 90-acre Edinburgh site.
Cotopaxi is one of only eight companies to be selected from 100+ innovators that applied for the Challenge in just two weeks.
The Gogarburn Innovation Challenge is just one of several RBS Innovation Gateway Challenges that provides innovators and SMEs with the chance to trial innovative resource efficiency ideas on the RBS estate. The RBS Innovation Gateway, led by John Hayes, Head of Workplace Services at RBS, has three aims; to help RBS save more energy, water and waste, to nurture new, brilliant innovations and to help local inventors take their ideas to market.
Cotopaxi was founded by Managing Director Cliff Bradshaw in 2009 and has recently been acquired by Chinese software giant BONC. Cotopaxi is a global engineering consultancy specialising in utility and carbon reduction and providing an end to end management service to industrial and commercial clients worldwide.
Cotopaxi’s innovation was taken from their ‘eXpert’ range, already successfully implemented on large blue chip industrial sites with proven savings and ready to go.
eXpert-Fridge® offers a holistic life cycle view of reliability and energy consumption in refrigeration systems, covering the energy conversion process at every stage of the complete refrigeration system. Through condition monitoring and optimising the cooling load profile, an improvement in plant reliability and maintenance will be realised.
Cotopaxi was one of the 100+ companies from across the UK who submitted innovations to the RBS Innovation Gateway in just two weeks for the chance to pilot their technology at the headquarters.
Their idea went before a panel of experts put together by RBS, including business leaders from major companies such as Carillion, and leading low carbon organisations such as the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation and the 2020 Scotland Climate Group, who assessed each idea and decided which ones would progress to trial at Gogarburn.
The companies chosen for installation, like Cotopaxi will now receive a range of support from RBS including access to the RBS Property Team, essential data collected from the pilot at RBS World HQ and practical support and insights help accelerate their innovation to market.
